With the exception of Radford Coachbuilders and Wood & Picket in the mid-sixties, radical conversions of the ubiquitous Mini over the years have tended to focus on outright performance. More recently, however, Silverstone-based, David Brown Automotive, introduced their Singeresque re-imagined Mini sold as the 'Mini Remastered' with the emphasis on luxury and bespoke design.
Their ethos is illustrated by an extract from their brochure which reads; 'Inspired by Sir Alec Issigonis’ classic icon, our experienced design and engineering teams worked meticulously to remaster the vision to create a contemporary design classic. De-seamed, strengthened and sound-proofed throughout, Mini Remastered not only looks great, but has improved structural integrity and comfort. The clean and elegant lines are brought to life with sculpted body-coloured wheel arch extensions and centrally-mounted exhaust outlets, providing the car with a classic, yet dynamic stance. A hand-applied paint process that takes four weeks, ensures that every car is not only flawlessly finished but protected for a lifetime. Full-grain, British-sourced leather upholstery sumptuously adorns the cabin throughout and is discreetly embossed with the David Brown Automotive logo on the front and rear seats, whilst illuminated modern dials with classic styling, knurled aluminium switchgear and classic Moto-Lita steering wheel are elegant and tactile to the touch.
Finished with beautiful badges which are handcrafted using traditional die-sinking enamel techniques, every detail has been considered. Jewel-like LED rear light clusters and indicators, framed by bespoke aluminium surrounds, alongside the signature aluminium grille take inspiration from the David Brown Automotive design language, whilst chrome bullet-style door-mounted wing mirrors with integrated LED puddle lamps bring function and style together.'
The majority of their conversions are based on post-1996 Mini 1.3i and Coopers and are powered by rebuilt original 1275cc A-series petrol engines upgraded to produce between 71 and 94 bhp mated to 4 or 5-speed manual gearboxes. Modern features include a 7-inch Pioneer touchscreen infotainment system featuring integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an integrated USB/AUX port plus full air conditioning, electric windows, and keyless push-button start.
This example is finished in period Surf Blue with a Silver Grey roof and 'Remastered' decals and is effectively new having covered just .6 of a mile. Full details to follow.
