1954 Bentley R-Type Sedanca

“ The quality and individuality of this exceptional R-Type is remarkable. They've taken the best that exists, and made it better. This one-off vehicle features a custom-built body designed by Norman Leitman that emulates the classic Gurney Nutting Mark VI Sedanca Coupé. ”
Being offered as part of our curated auction in conjunction with the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club Annual Rally at Kelmarsh Hall in Northamptonshire on the 26th – 28th June’26.

Background
The second of the post-war Bentleys, the R Type broke cover in 1952. A replacement for the successful MK VI, its straight-six 4.6-litre, twin-carburettor engine produces 130bhp, enough to push it past 100mph after notching up a sub-14 seconds 0-60mph time.

The front suspension is independent, while the rear is via semi-elliptic leaf springs. The brakes are drums all around, with hydraulic activation at the front and mechanical at the rear.

The result might have been a very fast motorcar for the period, but Bentley also took pains to ensure it soothed and cosseted its occupants, making the R Type one of the very nicest ways to waft away a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Overview
This R Type Sedanca Coupé is one of the most beautiful cars to have passed through our hands, an assessment the Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club endorsed when it awarded it First Place in one of its Concours competitions.

Built in 2009 by Nick’s Old Car Specialty in Redwings, California, its Norman Leitman-designed bodywork, which emulates the Gurney Nutting Mark VI Sedanca Coupé, set the owner back a six-figure sum…

Now registered here in the United Kingdom under the registration number ‘421 HYT’, it has just been serviced by marque experts Alpine Eagle, so it runs and drives beautifully.

Estimate: £40,000 - £50,000
