We are delighted to offer this charming 1957 MGA 1500 Roadster, a beautifully presented example that benefits from an extensive restoration undertaken between 2009 and 2013, with a remarkable history file documenting the work carried out throughout the project.
Imported from California in 2009, the MGA was purchased as a project and subsequently underwent a comprehensive restoration. Accompanying the MG is an extraordinary handwritten restoration ledger detailing hundreds of individual parts purchases, repairs and improvements carried out over a four-year period. The records show that well in excess of £7,500 was spent on parts alone, excluding countless hours of labour invested in returning it to the current condition.
The history file contains the original California Certificate of Title, importation paperwork, registration documents and a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate confirming that chassis number ‘HDK43/43211’ was manufactured at MG's Abingdon factory between the 25th and 29th November 1957.
During the restoration, the MGA was converted to right-hand drive and carefully restored using a mixture of original and replacement components. The restoration diary records extensive work to the body, chassis, suspension, braking system, cooling system, electrical components and interior trim, creating a highly usable and attractive classic roadster.
Finished in cream with a matching cream interior, the MG presents very well throughout. The cockpit features a wood-rimmed steering wheel, traditional Jaeger instrumentation and period-correct detailing, all of which combine to create the classic MGA driving experience. The exterior is equally appealing, with chrome brightwork, steel wheels and auxiliary driving lamps complementing the elegant lines of the bodywork.
The notes include comments stating that the chassis was found to be in excellent condition during the restoration, requiring no significant welding. The MG successfully passed its registration inspection in 2013, at which point the age-related registration number ‘187 YUR’ was assigned.
The odometer currently displays 4,639 miles, however this reading cannot be warranted due to the age and the restoration work undertaken.
Since arriving in the UK, the MGA has remained within the same family ownership. Following the passing of the original importer, it was transferred into another family member's name, meaning there have been only two registered keepers in the UK despite continuous family custodianship since 2009.
A well-presented and highly enjoyable British sports car, supported by a fascinating and unusually comprehensive restoration record, this MGA 1500 Roadster represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a usable classic with documented provenance and a wonderful ownership story.
