- Rare V4-engined Mk1 Capri model
- Driven to our fixed auction facility
- The subject of recent mechanical work
Built at Ford’s Halewood factory and first registered in the UK on 19th February 1973, this Ford Capri 2000 GT is presented in red with a black and red interior. It is powered by the 1996cc Essex V4 engine paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The chassis plate data confirms it was supplied new to the UK market as a right-hand-drive Capri 2000, making it a fine example of the much-loved Mk1 Capri.
Having had four former keepers, the vendor describes the car’s overall condition as between very good and excellent. Externally, the paintwork presents particularly well, with only a minor mark in the door shut and a small dent to the bonnet noted. The wheels and brightwork are also said to be in good order, complementing the Capri’s smart appearance. Inside, the seats, carpets and dashboard are all reported to be in very good condition, with the only fault being a loose armrest on the passenger door card that requires reattaching.
The odometer currently reads approximately 83,000 miles; however, this does not reflect the true mileage. The original dashboard was replaced with a Mk3 Capri unit due to non-functioning cluster lights. At the time of the change, the original odometer showed around 50,000 miles, while the replacement unit displayed approximately 82,000 miles. Supporting evidence includes a 2018 MOT recording circa 49,000 miles. The original dashboard is included with the car, and it is estimated that the Capri has covered approximately 52,000 miles in total. The lighting issue itself was traced to a missing dimmer switch, which has since been sourced and can be refitted.
The vendor advises that in May 2026 the clutch kit was replaced at a cost of £650, with an invoice available. The front and rear bumpers have been refurbished, including re-chromed over-riders. More recently, a new battery, solenoid and ignition coil have been fitted, although invoices are not available for these items. The car has also received a comprehensive ignition overhaul, including new spark plugs, distributor, distributor cap, rotor arm, condenser and ignition leads, again without supporting invoices. Additionally, a new fuel pump and heat sensor have been installed.
The Capri has benefitted from a bare-metal respray at a cost of £5,000; while there is no invoice, photographic evidence documenting the work is on file. Mechanically, the Capri is said to start easily and idle smoothly. Notably, it was driven to the auction facility without issue.
A sought-after Mk1 example, the car is offered with the V5C, a collection of historic MOT certificates, invoices for some of the work carried out, and photographs of the respray. Included in the boot are various spare parts, including an electronic ignition set, axle oil seals, spare light fuses, additional components, a brand-new carpet and the original odometer.
