Founded in Denmark in 1985, Kleemann established itself as one of the world's foremost Mercedes-Benz tuning specialists, earning a reputation for developing discreet, high-quality performance upgrades that enhanced the marque's luxury models without compromising refinement. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Kleemann became particularly well known for its work with Mercedes' naturally aspirated M112 and M113-engined cars, offering everything from suspension and exhaust upgrades to its celebrated supercharger conversions.

Of particular interest is the car's reported connection with renowned Danish Mercedes-Benz tuning specialist Kleemann. Manor Park Classics has spoken with the Mercedes-Benz Owners' Club, Kleemann themselves and Mercedes-Benz of Peterborough during the preparation of this catalogue entry. Kleemann advised that they no longer retain build records from this period and were therefore unable to verify the individual vehicle.

However, having described the vehicle's specification to them, they advised that it is consistent with what they would expect of a Kleemann conversion from the time. The vendor further advises that the car is fitted with a Kleemann exhaust system and believes the engine has also benefitted from period Kleemann tuning. As with any historic modified vehicle, prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves as to the extent and provenance of any modifications.

First registered in November 2003, the car is finished in Tanzanite Blue Metallic with a beige leather interior. Beneath the bonnet sits Mercedes-Benz's highly regarded 5.0-litre M113 V8, an engine renowned for its durability, effortless performance and smooth power delivery, producing around 302bhp in standard CLK 500 form.

Factory specification includes the desirable AMG Styling Package, COMAND navigation, Parktronic parking sensors, heated front seats, electric glass tilt-and-slide sunroof, premium sound system, CD changer, headlamp cleaning system and automatic climate control.

Showing 169,746 miles, the accompanying history file is particularly impressive, with 13 stamped service entries, five of which are from Mercedes-Benz main dealers. Supporting documentation includes previous MOTs, maintenance invoices from Mercedes-Benz of Peterborough, a Mercedes-Benz Certificate of Conformity and the original leather Mercedes-Benz book pack.
Recent maintenance includes replacement brake lines and wheel bearings in 2022, a new throttle body in 2021, gearbox oil service, engine and gearbox cleaning with replacement engine mounts in 2020, together with new suspension ball joints, coil springs and shock absorbers.

Combining the renowned reliability of the M113 V8 with a fascinating period connection to one of Mercedes-Benz's most respected tuning houses, this CLK 500 presents an intriguing opportunity. While its exact Kleemann specification cannot be conclusively verified, its documented history, maintenance record and reported provenance make it a particularly interesting example of the C209 generation.
