- Exceptionally specified BMW Individual E39 528i SE with over £15,000 of factory options
- One former keeper, supplied new in Germany before being imported and UK registered in 1999
- Outstanding provenance including original BMW specification documents, colour samples, service history and historic paperwork
The BMW E39 has long been regarded as one of the finest executive saloons ever built. Renowned for its impeccable balance of comfort, refinement and driver engagement, it remains a benchmark by which many modern saloons are still judged. While any well-kept E39 is a desirable car today, examples specified quite like this are exceptionally rare.
Built in 1999, this BMW 528i SE was supplied new in Germany before being imported directly to the UK and registered here the very same year. Since then it has had just one former keeper, a remarkable ownership record that is reflected in both the condition of the car and the remarkable history file that accompanies it.
Finished in stunning BMW Individual Veilchenblau Metallic (Violet Blue Metallic), the exterior is paired with an extraordinary BMW Individual full Nappa leather interior trimmed in Lotus White and Light Blue, complemented by leather-covered interior trim. It's a combination that perfectly captures BMW Individual's ability to create something genuinely unique.
Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of this car is the way its specification has been preserved. Included within the history file is the original BMW specification guide, with the first owner's chosen options marked by hand as the car was being configured. Based on BMW's published option prices, the selected extras total more than £15,000, representing an extraordinary investment in personalisation when the car was new. The file also includes the original BMW paint and leather colour samples supplied during the ordering process, a wonderfully unusual piece of provenance that offers a rare glimpse into how this bespoke E39 came to be.
The specification itself reflects that investment, with desirable factory options including Steptronic automatic transmission, full leather upholstery, electric glass sunroof, front seat heating, electric seats with memory, Park Distance Control, sports seats, Hi-Fi upgrades and numerous BMW Individual appointments throughout.
Power comes from BMW's superb 2.8-litre naturally aspirated straight-six producing 193bhp, paired with the five-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox. Smooth, refined and effortlessly capable, it delivers exactly the blend of performance and comfort that established the E39's reputation as one of BMW's defining modern classics.
Showing just 61,000 miles, the accompanying history file is exceptional. Alongside the original BMW book pack containing six stamped service entries are a 2002 service invoice, further maintenance invoices from BMW specialists Auto Service and a collection of historic MOT certificates. The file also retains an extraordinary collection of original German documentation from the car's earliest days, including its German registration papers, temporary export registration, international insurance documents, Certificate of Conformity and UK import and VAT paperwork, documenting the car's journey from Munich to Britain in 1999. Together with the original BMW specification guide, handwritten option selections and original BMW paint and leather samples, it provides an unusually complete record of the car's history from the moment it was ordered.
It should be noted while the car is broadly in very good condition there are a couple of scratches along the bodywork, please see the photographs for further details.
With low mileage, just one former keeper, a remarkable BMW Individual specification, extensive original documentation and one of the most complete history files we have encountered on an E39, this is a truly special example of one of BMW's greatest sporting saloon, an opportunity that is unlikely to be repeated anytime soon.
