2003 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage

“ A striking example in a pleasing modern colour scheme and best of all, offered without reserve. ”
With the proviso that the car responds to the light recommissioning we think it needs, this splendid Aston Martin DB7 Vantage represents a very rare opportunity to own a super-low mileage GT.

Background
Designed by Ian Callum, the beautiful Aston Martin DB7 was available as a coupé or convertible, and with a manual or an automatic gearbox.

In 1993, the new chairman of Ford Europe presented the finished car (which had yet to be named) to the general public at the Geneva Motor Show. The reception from the press and buying public was overwhelmingly positive and the car was subsequently put into production as the DB7.

Built in the same factory that used to build the Jaguar XJ220, the DB7 is the only ‘modern’ Aston Martin to utilise a steel monocoque body.

Introduced in March 1999, the DB7 Vantage was an exciting new model powered by a state-of-the-art, all-alloy V12 engine - a first for a production Aston Martin.

This 6-litre, quad-cam, 48-valve unit produced 420bhp and 400lb/ft of torque while meeting all current and projected emissions regulations.

There was a choice of two alternative transmissions: a new six-speed manual or ZF Touchtronic five-speed automatic with manually selectable ratios. A top speed of 185mph was claimed for the Vantage Coupé.

The existing six-cylinder DB7 bodyshell was re-engineered to accommodate the new V12 engine/transmission package, resulting in a stiffer structure exceeding all contemporary crash test requirements, while the suspension was developed specifically for this new model.

The 18" diameter wheels too were unique to the Vantage, which also featured cross-drilled and ventilated Brembo brakes equipped with ABS.

Notwithstanding all the DB7 Vantage's high-tech attributes, its makers had not lost sight of customer expectations of what constituted a proper Aston Martin.

Thus, the Vantage's hand-crafted interior featured traditional Connolly hide upholstery and could be trimmed and equipped to individual customer requirements.

All the usual luxury fittings came as standard, while clients could choose from an extensive list of options.

Overview
This DB7 Vantage is a 2003 model year car and therefore one of the final examples to leave the factory.

It has led a decidedly sedentary life ever since, posting 13,000 miles on the odometer in 2009, on its way to the current reading of just 19,651 miles.

The vendor has brought the car to us on behalf of her late father, who purchased the car on something of a whim in 2017, drove it very sparingly until early in 2020 and, thereafter, didn’t drive it at all but instead kept it warm, safe and dry in a garage.

The car is finished in the unusual shade of BMW Steel Blue with grey leather upholstery, carpets and Alcantara headlining, and walnut veneer inserts.

We think it’s a very classy and good-looking combination, for what it’s worth.

It seems to us to be in really very decent all-round condition, as befits its low mileage and minimal use, but, as it is currently not starting and has been idle for a while, it will need some level (we imagine a low level) of recommissioning before it can be given a clean bill of health and reintroduced to the open road.

Obviously, we can’t vouch for the car’s dynamic abilities as we’ve neither driven nor started it.

Estimate: £10,000 - £15,000
