The MGC was the more powerful, rarer six-cylinder version of the MGB and was built between 1967 and 1969. It was intended as the successor to the Austin Healey and to raise MG’s sports car range to a higher level of performance. It was fitted with the Austin C-series, a 2,912 cc (3.0-litre) in-line six-cylinder engine producing 145 pk at 5,500 rpm. The bodywork and rear suspension were largely similar to those of the MGB, but the front suspension was reinforced to cope with the extra weight and torque of the six-cylinder engine. It was fitted with power-assisted disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The MGC combined smooth power delivery with a characteristic six-cylinder sound.
