1933 Morris Minor 2-Seat Tourer

Background
Available in a variety of configurations including two-door, four-seater saloon and touring bodies, a four-door, four-seat coachbuilt saloon, a two-seat semi-sports, a two-door, two-seat S.V., a Special Coupé, and even a 5-cwt van, every Morris Minor left the factory front-engined, rear-drive, and powered by a 847cc side-valve engine.

The gearbox is as conventional as the powerplant with three forward speeds, one reverse and a single-plate dry clutch, although an additional forward ratio was made available in 1934.

The four-door salon has a wheelbase of 2.3m, while everything else sits on a slightly shorter 2m chassis. All are 1.26m wide and most weigh around 700kgs.

Launched in 1928 and built in Cowley, all four wheels are braked and the equipment available was far-sighted enough to include windscreen wipers, a driving mirror, Triplex safety glass, a fuel gauge, an electric horn, and a speedometer.

Sometimes described as a “full-sized car in miniature” its name was put into semi-retirement in 1934, coming out again for that difficult second album in 1940 with the car that most of us think about when we hear the words Morris Minor.

Showing just four previous keepers on the V5C Registration Certificate since being despatched from the factory on the 14th of February 1933, ‘JF 4546’ is a genuine UK-market Morris Minor that’s finished in green and black with gold wire wheels and a green interior.

Little more is known about its history other than it has clearly been restored to a very good standard in the not-too-distant past. It also runs and drives very well and would make a charming summer roundabout.
