Representing the ultimate expression of the Silver Shadow range, this elegant 1979 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II combines timeless styling, exceptional comfort and the effortless refinement for which the marque is renowned. Finished in its original and highly attractive colour combination of Caribe Aqua over Georgian Silver with a contrasting grey Everflex roof, this long-wheelbase example offers the additional rear passenger space and exclusivity that distinguished the Silver Wraith from its Silver Shadow stablemate.
Introduced in 1976, the Silver Wraith II replaced the Silver Shadow Long Wheelbase and just 2,135 examples were produced. Alongside the increased rear legroom, the model can be identified by its smaller rear window, Everflex roof and distinctive wheel covers, making it one of the more desirable variants of the Silver Shadow family.
First registered in the UK on 23rd August 1979, this automatic petrol/gas example has covered 118,194 miles and is now MOT exempt, although it benefits from an MOT valid until 31st July 2026 for additional peace of mind.
This Silver Wraith II has had six former keepers, with the current owner acquiring the car in 2024. It is accompanied by an impressive history file, including its original owner's handbook pack, a well-stamped Rolls-Royce service book containing 14 service stamps between 1980 and 1990, and maintenance carried out by respected Rolls-Royce specialists and dealers including Dutton Forshaw, Wadham Stringer and the supplying dealer Dyer. The history continues with a substantial collection of invoices dating from 1991 onwards, together with previous MOT certificates and the current V5C registration document.
The documented maintenance demonstrates consistent and sympathetic care throughout its life. Significant expenditure includes a full service and complete braking system overhaul with new accumulators in 2014, followed by a new battery and alternator in 2015. During 2016 the air-conditioning system was overhauled, while the underside received extensive attention with renewed suspension bushes, handbrake cable and springs, repairs where required and fresh underseal treatment.
Further improvements include a full service in 2017, refurbishment of the interior, fitting of a new Everflex roof and replacement carpets, together with a complete carburettor overhaul in 2019. Additional works have included replacement torque arms and mounts, new headlamps, alternator belts and fan cowling, replacement engine mounts, air-conditioning servicing, renewed front and rear brake pads, refurbishment of the bumper bar springs and, notably, a full repaint in its original Caribe Aqua finish. A further B Service was completed in August 2021.
The specification includes alloy wheels, leather upholstery and headlamp washers, reflecting the luxury and attention to detail expected of Rolls-Royce.
With its elegant long-wheelbase proportions, desirable original colour scheme and comprehensive maintenance history supported by extensive documentation, this Silver Wraith II represents an excellent opportunity to acquire one of the final and most exclusive developments of the Silver Shadow series. Offering exceptional comfort, effortless touring ability and unmistakable Rolls-Royce presence, it is a distinguished classic equally suited to shows, events or relaxed grand touring.
