Offered in smart, well-presented condition, this 1968 MG C Roadster is an attractive UK-market, right-hand-drive example of one of the rarest six-cylinder MG sports cars produced. Finished in green with a black interior, it combines the effortless performance of the MGC's 2.9-litre straight-six with desirable upgrades and a comprehensive history file, making it an appealing classic for touring or weekend enjoyment.
First registered on 4th April 1968, this example is fitted with the sought-after four-speed manual gearbox with optional overdrive, allowing for relaxed cruising. It has also been upgraded with electronic ignition for improved reliability while retaining its classic character. Further desirable features include painted wire wheels, a Moto-Lita sports steering wheel, luggage rack and a period stereo. The original steering wheel accompanies the car and could be restored if preferred. The hood, hood frame, bumpers and headlamp surrounds have all been replaced, while the car is supplied with both its original full tonneau cover and a half tonneau for open-top motoring.
The car benefits from a comprehensive body refurbishment carried out on the Isle of Wight in 2013, after which it has been garaged and used only sparingly. The refurbishment was completed when the odometer displayed approximately 23,000 miles, although it is understood that the car received a reconditioned Gold Seal engine earlier in its life, meaning the indicated mileage of 30,050 cannot be warranted as genuine. Since the refurbishment, the previous owner reportedly covered around 5,000 miles between 2015 and 2024, while the current owner has added only around 200 miles during approximately 18 months of ownership.
Today, the MG presents extremely well. The bodywork appears straight and solid with no obvious signs of corrosion, while the doors, bonnet and boot lid fit well. The paintwork retains a smart finish, complemented by bright chrome trim and painted wire wheels that remain in excellent visual order. Inside, the black upholstery displays only light, age-appropriate patina, with equally smart carpets, door cards and a well-presented boot compartment.
The history file is comprehensive, containing invoices documenting maintenance and restoration work, MOT certificates, service parts handbooks and a selection of French paperwork, reflecting previous continental touring undertaken by an earlier owner. The car has also benefited from servicing in both 2018 and 2023.
With eight former registered keepers, MOT and road tax exemption, desirable touring equipment and the benefit of sympathetic refurbishment, this MGC represents an excellent opportunity to acquire one of just 4,542 MGC Roadsters produced. Combining rarity, strong performance and superb touring ability, it is a wonderfully usable British classic that is ready to be enjoyed.
