Chassis No. 183554698

Introduced for 1936, the Ford De Luxe Roadster represented the most refined expression of Ford's popular V8-powered lineup. Featuring a lower-profile convertible top, chrome windshield surround, integrated rumble seat, and updated styling, it embodied the youthful spirit Ford promoted throughout the decade. Beneath the refreshed bodywork, continued mechanical improvements enhanced drivability while maintaining the performance that made Ford's V8 models so desirable.

Purchased by Southern California enthusiast Carl Burnett in the 1990s, this De Luxe Roadster became the subject of a comprehensive restoration and custom build intended to blend classic Ford styling with modern reliability and comfort. Documented in the accompanying history file, the original steel body was prepared by Merle Rhodes and refinished by Curt Holmquist in period-correct Washington Blue. The interior was trimmed in saddle leather and complemented by a matching soft top and cream-colored side curtains.

Power comes from a Ford 302-cubic-inch V8 paired with a C4 three-speed automatic transmission and a Ford nine-inch rear axle, all mounted to a TCI chassis. Additional upgrades include a tilt steering column and electric power steering, enhancing the driving experience while preserving the car's traditional appearance. Body-color steel wheels fitted with chrome hubcaps, trim rings, and wide whitewall tires complete the presentation, while the iconic rumble seat remains in place for additional passengers.

Completed in the early 2000s, the Roadster was successfully shown throughout the western United States, earning numerous awards and accolades. Admired for years by its previous owner, it was ultimately acquired in 2011 following Burnett's passing and joined a prominent Southern California collection of American and European collector automobiles. Since then, it has been maintained in climate-controlled storage and cared for by an in-house mechanic until it

was purchased by yet another prominent Southern California based collector in 2025, and has since been kept in meticulous condition, displayed among superb collector cars, while a exterior color matched top boot was professionally fitted.

Accompanied by extensive restoration records, photographs, and receipts contained within two binders, this attractive Ford De Luxe Roadster offers a well-executed blend of prewar charm, V8 performance, and modern usability, making it an ideal candidate for touring, local shows, and open-air motoring.
