In the golden age of early 2000s rallying, few names commanded greater respect than Subaru and Prodrive, competing and winning in the most competitive sphere of the World Rally Championship against major manufacturers with bitter rivalries. Prodrive had long since cemented itself as the motorsport arm of Subaru, masterminding the Championship-winning campaigns of Colin McRae, Richard Burns and Petter Solberg, as well as delivering one of the most recognisable cars in competition history, the blue and yellow Impreza WRC.
By 2007, Subaru’s Prodrive-operated World Rally Team was in the final phase of its long-standing Impreza programme, refining the GD-platform World Rally Car into its most developed form before the eventual switch to the hatchback successor. The final evolution of this lineage was the S12B, an updated specification incorporating aerodynamic, suspension and detail engineering revisions over the outgoing S12. In internal sequence it would logically have been designated S13, but the number was bypassed due to superstition, and the revised car entered competition as the S12B.
Offered here is HT56 SRT, Prodrive chassis 06.015, a genuine factory Subaru World Rally Team car built in early 2007. It's one of the most significant surviving late-era Subaru World Rally Cars and remains one of a very small number of fully traceable factory S12B chassis in existence.
The car made its World Rally Championship debut on Rally Mexico 2007, driven by Subaru’s lead driver and 2003 World Rally Champion, Petter Solberg. It was the first S12B chassis to compete at world championship level and on debut the car immediately demonstrated its competitiveness, setting multiple fastest stage times and leading the event during the opening leg. While the rally ended prematurely following an oil cooler failure which led to engine failure and retirement, the car showed undeniable pace and competitiveness.
The chassis continued its 2007 World Rally Championship programme on Rally Argentina, again in the hands of Solberg, before moving on to Rally Finland, where the fast gravel stages provided a more representative test of the revised aerodynamics and suspension package. The car’s final works outing came on Rally GB 2007, driven by Chris Atkinson, marking one of the last appearances of the factory Subaru World Rally Team in its GD-era form.
Following its factory WRC programme, HT56 SRT entered private competition use. Recorded campaigns include events with Eamonn Boland, including the Circuit of Ireland, Rally Catalunya and Rally GB, before the car was later acquired by Korda Racing in Hungary around 2010. Under this ownership it continued to be used in European rally competition before ultimately transitioning into historic preservation.
The car has retained a strong and continuous identity throughout its life, supported by its original Prodrive chassis designation 06.015 and accompanying FIA Gold Passport.
In 2020, HT56 SRT underwent a comprehensive bare shell restoration and rebuild carried out by Crozier Motorsport Engineering in Armagh. The work included a full strip and restoration of the shell, together with a new clutch and rebuilt gearbox and dampers. The restoration was carried out with the intention of preserving the original Prodrive bodyshell and maintaining the car’s authentic factory identity rather than replacing or re-shelling components. The car remains in possession of its FIA Gold Passport and has not been subject to crash damage during its life, retaining its original Prodrive shell.
Since completion of the restoration, the car has covered approximately 30 miles. In 2025, it returned to competition at the Irish Rally Masters event in Killarney, where it was driven in demonstration conditions. It was also subsequently used at Race & Rally Stages in 2025, where it finished 6th overall. Its only other recent outing has been a non-timed demonstration appearance at Killarney Race Course later the same year.
As a collector-grade example, HT56 SRT occupies a particularly significant position within the Subaru World Rally Car chronology. It represents the debut of the S12B specification at world championship level, a multiple-event works chassis driven by both Solberg and Atkinson, and one of the final factory Impreza World Rally Cars to compete under Subaru’s long-standing Prodrive partnership. Within the broader Prodrive Subaru lineage, it sits among the most important late-era GD-chassis works cars, representing the closing development chapter of one of rallying’s most successful and recognisable manufacturer programmes.
