A charming example of MG’s elegant Magnette ZB, this 1957 car is presented in a smart grey and black colour scheme complemented by a beautifully retrimmed red leather interior. Showing 90,014 miles and retaining a 1,489cc engine with manual transmission, it has been enjoyed by seven former keepers, with the current keeper owning the car since 2021.

The car presents well overall, with paintwork showing some age-related imperfections and a few areas of rust visible to the bodywork. Inside, the cabin presents particularly well, having benefited from an extensive retrim in red leather, together with restoration of the interior woodwork and headlining.

A considerable amount of work has been undertaken in recent years, supported by a substantial history file. In 2023, the seats and interior were removed, the wood trim was sent for restoration, the seats and rear door handles were retrimmed in red leather, and a new headlining and refurbished woodwork were fitted. Further work included refurbishment and reassembly of the dashboard, removal of the brake servo, new brake pipes where required, brake adjustment, an engine-bay tidy, refurbishment of the air-filter unit and the fitting of H4 headlamps.

The mechanical specification has also been usefully upgraded, with a front disc-brake conversion fitted in 2021 and an electronic ignition conversion carried out in 2024. More recent maintenance includes an alternator replacement in May 2025, together with a lubrication service and inspection in May 2024 and an engine tune-up and ignition timing reset the following month.

The Magnette has been driven to the auction venue and is said to be running and driving well. It is accompanied by a comprehensive collection of paperwork, including restoration photographs, invoices dating back as far as 1997, previous MOT certificates, the MG Magnette Operation Manual, current and previous V5 documentation, an NTG Services MGA & X-Type Parts Catalogue and an interesting selection of historic tax discs dating 1957, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2004, 2005 and 2015.

With its attractive period appearance, highly appealing red leather interior, extensive recent expenditure and useful history file, this MG Magnette ZB represents an appealing opportunity for the enthusiast looking for a characterful British classic with evidence of significant ongoing care and improvement.
