We are delighted to offer this 1976 Triumph Stag, which is being sold as a complete restoration project.
As the photographs show, there is plenty of work ahead for its next owner. The Stag has been partially stripped with several components removed, however, importantly these have been retained and will be supplied. This includes the seats, bonnet, glass and numerous interior and exterior components.
Most importantly, the Stag also retains its original 2997cc Triumph V8 engine, number LF042151HE, which is currently removed and will require refitting as part of the restoration. The mileage is believed to be approximately 53,000 miles, although due to the condition, this cannot be warranted.
The body remains in its red paintwork and is very much presented as found. There are visible corrosion and deterioration in a few areas and prospective buyers should satisfy themselves as to the full extent of the work required. This isn't a case of a quick recommissioning, it is a proper restoration project for somebody wanting to bring a Stag back from the ground up.
There are some nice positives to start with though. The Stag appears to retain a large amount of its original trim and fittings, including its Stag alloy wheels, chrome bumpers and exterior brightwork, while many of the parts removed during its earlier dismantling have stayed rather than disappearing over the years.
The history file also contains a selection of previous invoices and old MOT certificates.
The original Triumph V8 is a particularly important part of this project. The Stag's 2997cc V8 was developed specifically for the model, making retaining its original unit far more appealing than finding a project which has lost its engine or received a later conversion.
This is undoubtedly a sizeable project, but it also looks to be a very worthwhile one. With the original V8, plenty of the removed parts still present and a good basis from which to start, it gives its next owner the opportunity to restore the Stag exactly as they wish.
A genuine V8 Stag restoration project with plenty of potential and, importantly, offered at No Reserve.
