We are pleased to bring to market this very striking VW Karmann Ghia Convertible finished in cream with tan leather and hood. This is a beautiful looking example in every way and we think is one of the coolest convertibles on the planet. According to HPi, it was built in 1971 and would appear to have spent all its life in America. There are bits of paperwork relating to the VW living in California and some more suggesting that it may have been in Hawaii. It looks like its lived a very charmed life in warmer climates until it came to the UK where it was registered on 1/7/2026. One nice thing is that it has just had an MOT, even though it doesn’t need one.
As well as looking fantastic, it sits on a set of aftermarket alloy wheels called ‘Spirit of America’. We suspect these are designed for the VW market and can only be purchased in the US, but they look amazing and really set it off well. These are shod in a matching set of Michelin tyres, again giving you the impression that it has been very well cared for. The sound is fantastic, as air cooled cars can, but this is enhanced by having a set of twin Webber 40 carbs complete with chrome air filters. The engine bay is very well detailed and looks equally as impressive. Being 55 years old, we are not going to tell you it’s perfect but it’s not far off. There are a few little marks on the body and some of the chrome would benefit from a good clean, but part of getting a new classic is taking time to clean it and make it yours. This is fun and very satisfying and the VW would benefit from it immensely even though we think it’s pretty good now.
This Karmann Ghia shouts ‘cool’ and would be a joy to own. We don’t believe there are many in the UK that would be as good as this, so take a closer look and see what you think, we think it will be worth it.
