Finished in Bright Red with an Anthracite cloth interior, this 1998 BMW 316i E36 Compact is an appealing example of BMW’s increasingly collectible compact model, distinguished by its remarkably low recorded mileage of just 17,349 miles. The MOT history supports the mileage.

Purchased new in 1998 by the vendor’s parents from Bridgegate Ltd, the BMW has remained within the same family from new. The vendor became the registered keeper in 2025, making this a genuine one-family-owned-from-new example with just the one former keeper recorded being his parents.

Importantly, the original purchase invoice confirms that the car was supplied with the Sport Pack, adding further desirability to this low-mileage E36 Compact. It is equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox, power-assisted steering, ABS, alloy wheels, a sunroof and the original BMW audio equipment, including the radio and six-CD changer.

The Bright Red paintwork presents well overall, with some age-related imperfections consistent with its history. There is some lacquer peel to the rear bumper and the front BMW badge has faded, but the bodywork is otherwise described as good.

The Anthracite cloth interior is particularly well presented. The seats, carpets and headlining are all in good condition, with no apparent wear to the seats, steering wheel or gear lever. The car retains its BMW floor mats, working sunroof, original radio and six-CD changer, while the original tool kit remains in the boot along with the locking wheel nut.

Mechanically, the BMW starts readily and runs well, having been driven to the auction venue. Recent work carried out in November 2025 included replacement front and rear discs and pads, a new battery with a three-year warranty, replacement of an indicator bulb, cleaning of the washer jets and replacement of a wiper blade.

The accompanying history is a further highlight. The original service book is present, with a stamped entry from a main dealer service in 2006 at 4,265 miles. The paperwork file includes the original 1998 Bridgegate Ltd purchase invoice, current V5, current MOT certificate, MOT history printout and an invoice for the 2025 maintenance. Three keys are also present.

With its exceptionally low mileage, one-family history, original purchase documentation, Sport Pack specification and pleasing overall presentation, this 1998 BMW 316i E36 Compact represents an increasingly uncommon opportunity to acquire a well-preserved example of BMW’s distinctive E36-era compact.
