Where to start? Unused for over twenty years and showing only two owners since August 1999, our vendor purchased the Sierra in November 2015 at which time it had just been fitted with a new cambelt, petrol tank, radiator, battery and had received an oil and filter change. We can see that it had covered 77,332 miles when he took possession, the fact that it shows exactly the same mileage today tells a story.
Our owner, John, had owned Sierra Cosworths in his youth and in a cloud of nostalgia thought it would be great idea to revisit this part of his motoring past. So the Sapphire came home to rural Lincolnshire, was covered over and put in the garage with John’s other cars to await its restoration… and, well, that’s about it. Apart from its journey to our premises, it hasn’t turned a wheel. Whilst full of good intentions and enthusiasm, life, as ever, got in the way and the project never got started let alone finished.
Having discussed the state and condition with John, who was perfectly open and honest about everything, we were unsure as to what to expect prior to its delivery. However, we were pleasantly surprised, all that John had described to us was accurate. Overall it is in good order and appears to be standard and original, retaining its factory fitted radio cassette for example. Yes, it needs time, money and effort spending on it so please take the time to view first hand. Obviously it will require a fair amount of work to complete this project but it would seem to be good starting point. We are well aware of how discerning fast Ford afficionados can be, so would strongly encourage you to make your own mind up.
John has told us that unfortunately we don’t have any service history, the Cosworth was last started around seven years ago so we assume the engine is not seized, but again, please have a look for yourself.
A great opportunity, not to be missed!
