This is one of those SL500s where the specification really makes it. Finished in Tellurium Silver, it looks smart enough from the outside but open the door and the special-order blue Exclusive leather interior completely changes it. It's a brilliant colour combination and certainly not one we come across very often.
The blue leather extends beyond the seats and into the storage compartments behind them, with Burr Walnut trim and a matching half wood and leather steering wheel finishing things off nicely. It feels properly special inside and is a world away from the usual black or grey interiors found in most R230s
Under the bonnet is the engine that suits the SL perfectly, Mercedes' naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8. Smooth, powerful and effortless, it's equally happy cruising along with the roof down as it is covering some serious motorway miles. With just 69,700 miles showing, this one has seen relatively light use for its age too.
Mercedes certainly didn't hold back with the options. The seats are electrically adjustable with memory and are both heated and cooled, while it also benefits from ABC suspension, Xenon headlights, front and rear parking sensors, heated washer jets and Designo Alcantara headlining.
There's a decent history file as well, containing invoices for servicing and maintenance over the years. Of note is a replacement ABC pump fitted in 2018 along with a new electro-hydraulic control unit, two jobs that are certainly worth seeing documented on one of these.
It comes with two keys and has an MOT through until May 2027.
The R230 has aged incredibly well and the SL500 is arguably the sweet spot of the range. You get that big naturally aspirated V8, a folding metal roof that turns it from coupe to convertible at the touch of a button and all the comfort you'd expect from what was a seriously expensive Mercedes when new.
At 69,700 miles and with this colour combination and level of specification, this isn't just another silver SL500. It's a genuinely interesting example and one that looks every bit as good in the flesh as it does in the photographs.
