  • Rare period specification
  • Lovely provenance, just 25,350 miles and only six previous keepers
  • Ready to enjoy on the road with scope for further sympathetic fettling
  • Wonderful historic package

A beautifully characterful early Morgan 4/4, presented in timeless ivory which appears to retain the (correct for its age) steel disc wheels, dashboard and layout, steering wheel, bench-seat and the rear over-riders. Even the front bumper is correct with the hole of the starter and all of which is enhanced by the highly desirable suite of period Aquaplane and Competition specification upgrades.

Rather than simply being a wonderfully evocative example of Morgan’s early sporting cars, this particular 4/4 offers something rather more special; a fascinating specification, exceptional provenance and the opportunity to own a genuinely distinctive piece of British motoring history.

With its ivory coachwork, documented Competition upgrade, desirable Aquaplane equipment, remarkably low recorded mileage and unusually well-preserved history, it is a Morgan that rewards closer inspection.

A charming, usable and genuinely individual piece of British motoring history - and an exciting opportunity for the enthusiast seeking an early Morgan with something a little more special beneath the skin.

Originally sold to Mr J Baldwin in August 1959, the Morgan then remained with the Howe family for the majority of its life, until the mid-2000s. A significant restoration was carried out in the late 1980s, after which it covered very limited mileage. More recently, it has been carefully recommissioned for enjoyable road use.

The odometer records just 25,350 miles, with only six previous keepers - remarkably, one family accounted for much of the history. Accompanying the Morgan is an extensive history file containing supporting documentation, period photographs and a particularly interesting record of its specification.

The 4/4 benefits from period Aquaplane enhancements, including the coveted engine upgrades associated with these early sporting Fords and Morgans. Most notably, the ‘Competition’ engine upgrade was recorded in the logbook in 1965, with the original documentation retained on file.

Only 37 Competition Series 2 examples were produced, making the specification an especially appealing feature of this Morgan. It is believed that this example was upgraded in period to factory specification, giving it a fascinating connection to the competition-bred development of the 4/4.

The Aquaplane components remain readily available today, making this an unusually attractive combination of period character, sporting pedigree and continued usability.

Recent work includes brand-new twin SU carburettors (ideally suited to the Aquaplane upgrades), all fluids renewed and new spark plugs. There are recent receipts and supporting invoices along with a period workshop manual.

As one would expect of a 67-year-old sports car, there is always scope for further fettling and improvement - part of the charm of owning an example of this era.

The Morgan is supplied with its full weather equipment, including hood, side screens and tonneau cover.

It also benefits from Historic Vehicle status and is therefore MOT and road-tax exempt.
