Every once in a while, we are fortunate to see something arrive that absolutely epitomises a true stand-out example that has been cherished and cared for throughout its life. Even less often, has that example been in the hands of one owner from new. Less so again, it is 48 years old with just 38,000 miles.
Well, it’s here, this gorgeous 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce is a gem.
Built in 1976 and originally destined for the South African market as the accompanying ‘Certificato Di Origine’ details, this Alfa never made it to the Southern Hemisphere and was redesignated to the UK. At that time, stricter emission regulations meant that the sweet 1962cc engine was about to be phased out in Europe.
This Spider was purchased new in April 1978 from Gates of Frodsham (yes, we have the original sales invoice) and kept locally in Cheshire by the vendor to this day. We have a stamped service booklet, as well as invoices for work carried out including a detailed, extensive recommissioning in 2013 by Trevor Farrington Ltd in Knutsford.
The Alfa comes with a full cloth cover, tonneau cover, original radio, original Alfa Romeo rubber mats and spare keys. It even has the original ‘Pininfarina’ radio cover should the next owner wish to remove the radio. Long wave radio has just finished broadcasting in the UK so this might be a viable option.
It seems a shame to mention a couple of minor blemishes on such a wonderful example but there are a couple of very small stone chips on the front panel and the driver’s door quarterlight window catch needs reattaching.
