Based on the XJ‑Series pillarless coupe body, it combined the elegance of the two‑door design with Daimler's signature refinement and the formidable 5.3‑litre V12 engine. Production numbers were extremely low, making any surviving example a prized sight on the roads. The V12 endowed the car with effortless torque and a velvety, almost silent surge of power. Paired with automatic transmission and sophisticated suspension, the Double Six Coupe delivered a uniquely smooth, dignified driving experience. Its cabin was unmistakably Daimler: deep leather, rich wood veneers, and the ornate fluted grille motif echoed inside through subtle trim details. Visually, the pillarless profile gave the car a graceful openness when the windows were lowered, enhancing its grand‑touring character. Despite its size, the Coupe felt composed and balanced, more a refined cruiser than a sporting machine. Today, enthusiasts admire the Double Six Coupe for its rarity, craftsmanship, and the quiet confidence of its V12 performance.
This rare 1978 Daimler Double Six Coupe was recently purchased from a deceased estate with the previous owner acquiring the car in 1990 and for the last twenty years had the car in storage not being used. The car has undergone a recent service replacing the spark plugs, H/T leads, oil and filter as well as being completely repainted in the original colour of Squadron Blue, keeping the original blue interior. It is believed that out of the 400 Daimler Double Six Coupe's built, only about 100 have survived and are on the road. This Double Six Coupe is supplied with a V5 registration document, the handbook and a sales brochure. A rare Daimler which would grace any collection. Consigned by John Tomlin
