With an original purchase invoice on file, ‘F606 RWS’ was first registered in the UK on 31st March 1989, and with four former registered keepers, this example of the scarce and much lauded XR4x4i is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission and is presented in Flint Grey with a matching Grey cloth interior. The vendor describes its overall condition as ranging from ‘good’ to ‘very good’. It has also recently passed its MOT test with no advisories, with the certificate remaining valid until July 2027 and was driven to our fixed auction venue.
Externally, the car presents very well and rides on its correct alloy wheels. The paintwork is generally bright and in good overall condition, although there are some minor imperfections, particularly around the spoiler area. The vendor describes the bodywork as solid, with all wheel arches in good order and no significant concerns noted. There are a few small dents present, only noticeable to the keener eye without detracting from the car’s overall appearance.
The interior presents very well overall, with the seats and carpets all appearing to be in good condition. As is common on cars of this age, the headlining has begun to sag slightly in places, although it does not significantly detract from the cabin's overall appearance.
Mechanically, the car runs and drives well and, as we said, ‘F606 RWS’ was driven to the auction venue under its own power. It has clearly been well cared for, having been kept in a garage and used primarily for events and occasional weekend drives.
It’s a plus to see the book pack is present, including the service book which contains five stamped entries, all of which are main dealer entries. The first recorded service was carried out in May 1989 at 1,504 miles, with a further service entry recorded in October 1989 at 3,848 miles. Another stamped entry appears in April 1990 at 5,149 miles. The service book also records a September 1990 entry at 8,368 miles. The final listed main dealer service entry is dated March 1991 at 10,065 miles. There is a wealth of MOT paperwork which represents MOT activity from 2000 to 2027
In addition, the history file contains evidence of regular maintenance and servicing throughout the car’s life. The earliest invoice on record relates to a service carried out in 1990 at 8,368 miles. Further servicing was completed in 1993 at 18,673 miles and again in 1994 at 24,137 miles. In 1995, clutch work was undertaken at 28,638 miles, followed by a service in March 1996 at 34,269 miles. Another service was recorded in February 1997 at 39,427 miles, while a further service was carried out in March 1998, although the mileage was not noted on the invoice. The maintenance record continues with a service in November 1998 at 46,828 miles. In March 1999, the engine oil and filter were changed at 51,023 miles, followed by a service on 2 October 1999 at 53,249 miles. Shortly afterwards, on 14 October 1999, both the gearbox oil and transfer box oil were replaced at 54,414 miles. Overall, the documentation demonstrates a consistent pattern of maintenance during the vehicle’s early years. The car has also benefited from more recent maintenance, including the replacement of the starter, battery, battery terminal fitting kit, spark plug and ignition lead set in September 2025 at 63,716 miles.
