A genuine, mechanically sound 1974 MG B GT that offers an ideal opportunity for somebody looking for a usable classic to improve over time. While the bodywork will require a considerable amount of TLC, with various areas of corrosion and age-related cosmetic deterioration evident around the car, it remains a solid driving proposition that can be enjoyed immediately whilst restoration work is carried out at the new owner's pace.

Finished in blue with a beige interior and fitted with desirable chrome wire wheels, this chrome-bumper GT retains plenty of period character. The cabin presents well with supportive seats, a leather sports steering wheel and auxiliary gauges neatly mounted on the dashboard, while the original-style folding Webasto sunroof adds an especially desirable feature rarely found on many examples. The odometer displays 57,548 miles, which appears consistent with the extensive accompanying history, although this cannot be fully verified.

Under the bonnet sits the familiar B-Series four-cylinder engine, breathing through twin SU carburettors and coupled to a manual gearbox. The engine bay presents as an honest, usable classic rather than an over-restored showpiece, with evidence of regular maintenance throughout its life, and the vendor reports that the car drives superbly and is mechanically sound despite its cosmetic shortcomings.

The history file is a real strength of this GT, documenting decades of maintenance stretching back to the late 1980s. Most recently, it received an engine oil and filter change together with a general service in April 2025, following further services in 2020, 2019, 2017, 2016 and 2013. Earlier invoices record a replacement fuel pump, suspension work, a new exhaust system and regular servicing by Brown's Garage during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Perhaps most significantly, the file includes evidence of a replacement reconditioned engine being fitted, with invoices detailing removal of the original engine, replacement of the rear oil seal and installation of the rebuilt unit. An earlier substantial invoice from November 1998 totalling almost £3,900 also demonstrates that significant expenditure has been invested in the car over the years, while body repairs to both nearside sills and the front spoiler were carried out in 2015.

Included with the car is its current V5C, an original MGB owner's handbook, previous MOT certificates and an extensive collection of invoices and receipts documenting decades of ownership and maintenance.

For somebody seeking a concours example, this is not that car. However, for an enthusiast wanting an honest chrome-bumper MGB GT with excellent history, a usable mechanical condition and the opportunity to gradually restore and improve it while enjoying it on the road, this represents an appealing and increasingly difficult package to find.
