When Carrozzeria Touring submitted a new design on the 6C 2500 chassis to the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este in 1949 and won the top prize, one of the most coveted body styles of the post-war period immediately bore its name. This Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sports Sperimentale Series IV Cabriolet, with exclusive Touring coachwork, is a rare version of that design on the longest wheelbase available for the model. Only five examples with this long wheelbase were built, of which reportedly only two or three have survived. According to correspondence from 1989, present in the file, from Carlo Felice Bianchi Anderloni, then director of Touring Superleggera, this car, described as the Experimental Sport Series Type IV with three carburetors on the long chassis, was completed on April 15, 1952. The car left the factory in the original livery, grey with a blue leather interior and a matching soft top, and retains this factory-correct combination to this day.
