Iconic Auctioneers are delighted to offer another highly significant car from the personal Collection of Jeremy Clarkson: a 1983 Alfa Romeo GTV6, famously featured in Series 3, Episode 7 of The Grand Tour entitled Well Aged Scotch.

First broadcast on 22 February 2019, the episode saw Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May head to Scotland in three inexpensive and increasingly rare Italian classics. Clarkson selected this Alfa Romeo GTV6, May a Lancia Gamma Coupé and Hammond a Fiat X1/9, with the trio setting out to discover whether there were still interesting classic cars available before their values inevitably followed the rest of the market upwards.

Clarkson was clearly rather taken with the handsome Rosso Alfa GTV6. At the beginning of the programme he explains its appeal, highlighting its 2.5-litre V6, rear-mounted, five-speed transaxle, twin-plate clutch and four-wheel disc brakes. The GTV6's combination of Italian styling, a wonderful V6 soundtrack and clever engineering made it, in Clarkson's eyes, an especially compelling choice for their Scottish adventure.

The Alfa was then put to proper use, joining the other two Italian classics on a road trip around the spectacular North Coast 500, taking in some of Scotland's finest driving roads and scenery. As might be expected, the journey was not entirely trouble-free with Jeremy’s affection for the Alfa tested by its notoriously recalcitrant gear change, while all three cars suffered the mechanical foibles one might reasonably expect from inexpensive Italian classics of this era.

The episode is full of the sort of details that make the GTV6 so memorable. Clarkson explains the curious plastic ‘tea-tray’ in the centre of the new bonnet, was designed to enable the taller 2.5-litre ‘Busso’ to fit, while the car's unusual clutch arrangement and associated starting procedure become another source of entertainment during the journey. The Alfa also suffers a propshaft failure, something Jeremy subsequently discusses during the programme's Conversation Street segment.

Following filming, the GTV6 joined Jeremy Clarkson's personal Collection, giving this already charismatic Alfa an unusually direct connection with one of Britain's best-known motoring personalities.

The Alfa had covered just 28,315 miles at the time of cataloguing, has been maintained in-house, and is accompanied by an MOT valid until 14 June 2027.

Its significance, however, extends far beyond its modest mileage. This is a genuine Clarkson-owned Alfa Romeo that appeared in one of The Grand Tour's most entertaining classic-car adventures, driven through some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain as Clarkson, Hammond and May explored the North Coast 500.

Why is he now selling it? As with the other cars offered in this remarkable group, the reason will become clear in the forthcoming season of Clarkson's Farm. We shall leave that story for Jeremy to tell.
