- The Corgi evolved directly from the Welbike, a tiny folding motorcycle developed during WWII for British airborne troops. The idea was that a soldier and a small motorcycle in a cannister could be dropped by parachute, after which the bike could be unfolded and used for transport
- After the war Lt-Col. John Dolphin, who had been involved with the Welbike, adapted this military engineering into an economical, ultra-compact commuter vehicle for a resource-scarce post-war era. Powered by a 98cc two-stroke Excelsior Spryt engine, they were manufactured by Brockhouse Engineering in Southport between 1949 and 1954 and the name came from its squat, compact appearance, which reminded its designers of a corgi dog
- The Mk 2 benefitted from a kick-start mechanism and dog clutch and a handlebar-operated two-speed external gearbox. Telescopic front forks were an option
- This well-presented example is on offer from an enthusiastic Corgi collector and he is only selling due to needing some space for further Corgi projects. It benefits from recent work including a new clutch, bearings, seals, magneto, new tank and wiring
- Supplied with a current V5C (Historic) and a recent Dating Certificate from the National Autocycle & Cyclemotor Club
