  • Unbelievable condition
  • Huge amount of paperwork
  • Many photographs
  • Won many trophies

Here we have possibly the best Triumph TR4 on the market. This is a beautiful example in every way and has been subject to an extensive restoration to the highest standard by a very talented gentleman. This TR has won every competition it has ever been entered into and comes with a huge number of trophies and such things, and rightly so. It is finished in vibrant bright red with red carpets and beige seats, all to the highest standard. The look is continued with a boot rack and wire wheels, again to the highest standard possible. It is also blessed with the lovely option of the Surrey top. The paperwork on this TR4 is vast with invoices and receipts going back many years, along with a few older MOTs, details of the Triumph Owner’s Club, information from DVLA about the previous owners and spare keys. There is also a large amount of photographs in many forms showing the TR before, after and during the restoration. Always a nice thing to see with any classic, to actually see the attention to detail and the finished article.

The paperwork carries on with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate detailing the build and specification. It tells us that the TR4 was built in signal red, which it still is, with black vinyl seats, now changed to beige and was sold by The Light Car Company Limited in Derby on 1/5/1964. The specification when new was 60-spoke wire wheels, overdrive, heater, black tonneau cover, sun visors and 165-15 Michelin tyres. What a great piece of information to have attached to this TR! The vendor has provided the following information:

“Bought the car stripped it was just a rolling chassis (rule number 1 never buy a stripped car) it took six years of hard graft and plenty of money to restore it to the condition it is today. Engine has been stripped and rebuilt with a full set of power max pistons, liners and shells, cylinder head converted to run on unleaded fuel. All interior trim has been replaced with leather and built to modern standard (no horsehair padding in seats no springs or wadding) a full set of spoked wire wheels completed the restoration. Most of the work was done by myself but not the paint and trim work.”

The gentleman was a very talented motor engineer who had the experience and knowledge to complete these tasks, and the common sense to let a professional painter do the paintwork and a trimmer do the trim work. We dread to think how many man hours and, more importantly, how much money was spent to get this TR to the standard it is today. As we started, this is possibly, probably, the best example of a TR4 you are going to come across at this moment in time.
