The 2000 Yamaha YZF-R1 (internally designated as the 5JJ model) is the second major iteration of Yamaha's iconic, game-changing superbike. After the raw and revolutionary 1998-1999 original (the 4XV) turned the motorcycle world on its head, Yamaha’s primary goal for the year 2000 was to refine, sharpen, and improve the ergonomics of the existing bike rather than completely redesigning it.
