- Over 20 years in private museum

Few capture the sheer presence of the American muscle-car era quite like the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T. Broad-shouldered, beautifully proportioned and powered by one of Chrysler’s most celebrated big-block V8s, the R/T combined effortless performance with unmistakable road presence. This particular example adds genuine rarity, fascinating provenance and an exceptional specification to the mix.
Finished in White with a contrasting Green interior and Dark Metallic Green V9F transverse stripe, the combination is believed to be unique. Importantly, the original fender tag and build sheet remain, supporting its factory specification and making this an especially interesting proposition for the serious Mopar enthusiast.
Beneath that wonderfully long bonnet sits the legendary 440ci Magnum V8, coupled to Chrysler’s three-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission. Power steering and power brakes make this substantial machine surprisingly easy to enjoy, while Rallye wheels, correct brightwork, dual-snorkel air cleaner and four-barrel carburettor complete the period appearance.
The Challenger spent more than 20 years within a private American museum collection before making its way to the UK. In 2017, its current owner entrusted renowned Mopar specialist Ernie Wright with an extensive recommissioning programme. The work was comprehensive, encompassing engine servicing, carburettor overhaul and tuning, transmission servicing, differential overhaul and attention to the suspension and braking systems. Metal fuel lines were replaced, the heater box and matrix restored, the electrics checked and the suspension carefully set up. BF Goodrich Radial T/A Raised White Letter tyres provide just the right finishing touch.
A handful of sympathetic, reversible improvements make the Challenger more agreeable in modern traffic, including H4 headlamps, LED dashboard illumination and a period-style Bluetooth radio incorporating hands-free calling and discreet USB / Aux connections within the glovebox.
Crucially, this isn’t an example that has simply been parked and polished. It has been regularly exercised on many fair-weather weekends. Although Historic Vehicle status means an MOT is no longer mandatory, the owner had continued to present it for testing although the current MOT expired in May this year.
UK registered, beautifully presented and accompanied by important factory documentation, this is a particularly compelling 440 R/T: rare, imposing, properly sorted and ready to be enjoyed.
A fabulous slice of full-fat American muscle with specification, history and presence in equal measure.
