GENERAL INFORMATION:

For the 2002 model year, Porsche introduced the Carrera 4S. This model adopted many of the exterior features of the 996 Turbo and combined them with the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter Carrera engine. The result was a 911 with the broad and powerful appearance of the Turbo, but with the more direct throttle response and characteristic sound of a naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine. The wide rear end, the 18-inch Turbo-style wheels, and the characteristic red reflector strip between the taillights clearly distinguish the 4S from a regular Carrera 2 or Carrera 4. Technically, the Carrera 4S combines its 320 hp 3.6-liter engine with permanent all-wheel drive. This specific example is particularly interesting thanks to the 6-speed manual transmission. At the time, the 4S was also available with Tiptronic, making a manual example especially interesting for enthusiasts looking for a more direct and engaging driving experience.

TECHNICAL & MECHANICAL CONDITION:

This Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is equipped with the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer engine producing 320 hp, combined with the sought-after 6-speed manual transmission and Porsche's permanent all-wheel drive. An important point regarding this car is that the original engine was replaced at approximately 190,000 kilometers with an original Porsche Austauschmotor. An Austauschmotor is a replacement or exchange engine supplied through the Porsche network, and therefore not simply a locally reconditioned original engine. This is an important distinction and forms a significant part of the car's mechanical history. The car has now driven a total of 320,014 kilometers and drives well. The transmission shifts smoothly, and the car still features its original 6-speed manual transmission. As a Carrera 4S, the car combines the naturally aspirated Carrera engine with permanent all-wheel drive and Porsche Stability Management (PSM). The 4S was introduced as one of the sportier Carrera versions within the 996 generation and combines the broad presence of the 996 Turbo with the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter powertrain. Another sought-after factory option on this example is the Porsche Sport Exhaust System (XLF), which gives the 3.6-liter boxer engine a distinctly more powerful exhaust sound while fully aligning with the original Porsche factory specification.

EXTERIOR & BODY:

The car is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and features the characteristic wide body of the 996 Carrera 4S. The Carrera 4S uses a body closely related to that of the 996 Turbo, including the wider rear fenders and the more muscular appearance. Unlike the Turbo, however, it features the naturally aspirated Carrera engine. This combination has made the 996 Carrera 4S one of the most recognizable models within the 996 generation. At the rear, the Carrera 4S is instantly recognizable by the red reflector strip between the taillights. This design element simultaneously serves as a visual reference to earlier all-wheel-drive Porsche 911 models. The car is fitted with the correct 18-inch Porsche Turbo Look II-style alloy wheels. Combined with the wide body, these give the Carrera 4S a distinctly more powerful appearance than a standard Carrera with a narrow body. Exterior factory equipment includes electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, a rear wiper, Park Distance Control, and a windshield with a more heavily tinted upper section.

Overall, the car presents well. The lower front spoiler lip has some damage and could be replaced to improve the appearance of the front end. Additionally, the car shows some normal signs of wear commensurate with its age and mileage.

INTERIOR:

The interior is finished in black leather, forming a classic combination with the Arctic Silver Metallic exterior color. Both the driver's and passenger's seats are electrically adjustable comfort seats. The front and rear seats are upholstered in leather, and the backrests of the rear seats can be folded down individually.

The car is equipped with the original three-spoke Porsche airbag steering wheel, air conditioning, an on-board computer, and electric windows. The original Porsche PCM2 system is also present and features a radio, telephone preparation, and PCM2 navigation. Furthermore, the car is equipped with a Porsche CD changer and the original sound system. Further equipment includes an anti-theft system with alarm siren and tilt sensor, driver and passenger airbags, and side airbags.

DOCUMENTATION:

This Porsche 911 Carrera 4S 3.6 was produced on May 13, 2004, for the 2004 model year and was originally delivered new in Belgium. The car comes with the original booklets, including the stamped service book. The invoice for the Porsche replacement engine currently installed in the car is also present. This documentation forms an important part of the car's history, particularly regarding the engine replacement at approximately 190,000 kilometers.
