The late 1980s and early 1990s represented a golden era for lightweight Japanese sports motorcycles, and few machines capture the excitement of that period quite like the Suzuki RGV250. Developed with clear inspiration from Suzuki's Grand Prix racing programme, the RGV combined a high-revving 249cc two-stroke V-twin engine with a lightweight aluminium frame, sharp handling and aggressive styling. The result was a motorcycle that offered an exhilarating riding experience and became a firm favourite among enthusiasts.

This 1991 example is presented in the instantly recognisable blue and white Suzuki racing-inspired colour scheme, complete with bold RGV250 graphics, contrasting blue front mudguard, white alloy wheels and twin exhaust silencers. Its purposeful fairing, compact proportions and period decals capture the appearance that made these motorcycles so desirable when new.

The motorcycle has an interesting ownership history, having been acquired by its current keeper in 1998. The vendor advises that it was used for approximately 18 months following purchase before being placed into storage, where it has remained for the best part of three decades. The V5C records just one former keeper, making this a two-keeper example with particularly long-term current ownership.

Having spent such a considerable period off the road, the Suzuki is now offered as a recommissioning and restoration project. The vendor advises that the engine turns over, although the motorcycle has not been brought back into running condition and will require mechanical attention before it can be used. The tank and seat connections are reported to be missing and will need addressing as part of the recommissioning process.

Cosmetically, the motorcycle retains much of its distinctive period appearance. The blue and white paintwork and graphics remain presentable in places, although there are age-related scratches, scuffs and general storage wear. The photographs also show oxidation and corrosion to exposed metal components, including areas around the braking system, exhausts and fittings. The tyres will require replacement, and a thorough inspection of the mechanical and braking systems will be necessary before any return to the road.

The odometer displays approximately 12,786 miles, although this reading has not been independently verified. The vendor believes the mileage to be genuine, citing the limited use during their ownership and the motorcycle's lengthy period in storage.

Unfortunately, the original service history and supporting paperwork have been lost over the years. However, a current V5C registration document accompanies the motorcycle.

For an enthusiast of classic Japanese performance motorcycles, this RGV250 represents an appealing opportunity to revive one of the defining lightweight sports bikes of its generation. Its long-term ownership, recognisable period colour scheme and largely complete appearance provide an interesting starting point for a sympathetic recommissioning or more comprehensive restoration.
