The quintessential British sportster could only be hand-built in the Malvern Hills, the perfect setting for 'wind in the hair' motoring and birthplace of a marque founded at the turn of the last century. Having left engineering college, HFS Morgan set up his garage in 1906 and developed his first vehicle: a bespoke three-wheeler. It was 1936 before the first four-wheeled Morgan appeared, known as the 4/4. Replaced by the more powerful Plus 4, the 4/4 returned in the mid-1950s and utilized various Ford engines until 1980. The subsequent decade introduced the Ford 1597cc CVH unit, which offered brisk performance with good economy. Remaining in craftsman production in Worcestershire until 2018, the 4/4 remains high on the list of must-own classic sports cars.
Historics are pleased to offer this lovely Morgan on behalf of its current custodian. Supplied new by Lifes Motors in Southport—the oldest Morgan specialist in the world—this 4/4 left their premises in June 1982. It is finished in Turquoise Blue, a stunning colour originally used by the factory in 1959, paired with a classic black interior. Power comes from the enthusiastic Ford CVH 1597cc engine mated to a four-speed gearbox, a setup shared with the legendary Escort XR3 of the era.
The car comes with an extensive history file including two A4 folders of invoices, the original owner's manual and the factory sales brochure, with traceability dating back to an MOT certificate from 1986. Maintenance has been fastidiously kept up to date; most recently, a minor service was carried out in August 2026 alongside the installation of new front shock absorbers, fresh kingpins and a replacement cambelt and tensioner. Presenting in lovely condition throughout, this iconic British roadster is fully prepared for its next chapter and represents a wonderful opportunity for any discerning classic car enthusiast or collector.
