Designed by Dante Giacosa, the Fiat 500 was produced between 1957 and 1975, with limited production of the Fiat 500K Estate continuing until 1977. Measuring just three metres in length and originally powered by a diminutive 479cc air-cooled, two-cylinder engine, the 500 helped redefine the concept of the small car and is widely regarded as one of the first true city cars. Despite its compact proportions, it proved immensely practical and popular throughout Europe, capturing the hearts of motorists with its charming styling and economical running costs. Introduced in 1968, the 500 L, or Lusso, remained in production until 1972 and featured a significantly updated interior, including a redesigned dashboard that gave the little Fiat a more contemporary feel.

First registered in 1970, this delightful example was imported into the UK in December 2018, having previously benefitted from a comprehensive restoration in Italy. As a result, the paintwork presents very well, while the interior remains in good order throughout. Accompanying the car is a history file containing a copy of the original Italian registration document, previous MoT test certificates and the current V5 registration document. Since then, £1,718 has been spent with specialists to bring the car to an excellent standard with the relevant invoice included in the history file. Previously sold through Historics in November 2022, the current owner has taken great care of the car, and it presents in almost the same condition as it did then. Offered without reserve, this charming Fiat 500 L represents an appealing opportunity to acquire a well-restored example of this much-loved Italian classic, ready to be enjoyed on the road.
