Launched in 2001, the R230-generation Mercedes-Benz SL represented a significant evolution of the marque's long-running luxury roadster, combining traditional grand touring refinement with sophisticated technology and impressive performance. The SL500 was powered by Mercedes-Benz's naturally aspirated 5.0 litre V8, producing 302bhp and delivering the effortless performance expected of the model. Its most notable feature was the ingenious electro-hydraulic Vario roof, allowing the car to transform from an elegant coupe into an open-top roadster at the touch of a button.

This example has covered just 59,555 miles and presents an appealing opportunity to acquire one of Mercedes-Benz's most accomplished modern grand tourers. In August 2025, the auxiliary battery was also replaced with a genuine Mercedes-Benz item.

The car has formed part of a substantial private collection in recent years, where it has been maintained and looked after by the vendor's in-house mechanic. Although the loss of its earlier service records is regrettable, the more recent maintenance provides a useful record of attention during the current ownership.
